President Ersin Tatar on Thursday received a delegation from the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBÜ) who are holding a series of contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Speaking during the visit, the president stressed that there were two sovereign equal peoples on the island and that they will never give up on their sovereignty.

A statement released by the President’s Office said that President Tatar highlighted the importance of sovereignty on the eve of the 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day and drew attention to the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for the recognition of their sovereignty in Cyprus.

Reminding that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo tried to suppress the Turkish Cypriots through a set of methods with the aim of annexing the island to Greece, Tatar said, “We have always trusted motherland Turkiye. We are waging our struggle for existence with the support of motherland Turkiye.”

Noting that the Turkish Cypriots were as sovereign as the Greek Cypriots, he said the struggle for sovereignty was still continuing.

Tatar added that they continued to work towards further strengthening the TRNC

Stating that the Social Sciences University of Ankara’s campus in the TRNC was an advantage for the country’s higher education sector, Tatar thanked all the academics and employees of the University for their Efforts.
