President Ersin Tatar has said that the right to sovereignty was the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ most natural right.
The president was speaking during visits paid to him by delegations from Türkiye which are in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to attend the 20th of July celebrations.
President Ersin Tatar received a delegation from the Turkish Disabled War Veterans, Martyrs, Widows and Orphans Association on Monday.
Speaking during the visit, the President said that the Turkish Cypriot people who suffered greatly at the hands of the Greek Cypriots and who had been forced to flee their homes and villages gained their independence on July 20, 1974 with the arrival of the Turkish Armed Forces on the island.
Stating that they had been carrying out a policy together with the motherland Türkiye, he said the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo envisaged the isolation of Türkiye, establishing their domination in the region within the framework of EU mechanisms.
“We are faced with a mentality which aims the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island and the scrapping of the system of guarantees on the basis of the principle of ‘zero troops zero guarantees.’ This is unacceptable” Tatar stressed.
The president also added that the new policy in Cyprus envisaged a solution which will be based on sovereign equality and equal international status.
Meanwhile, President Tatar also received the Cyprus war veterans from the Şanlıurfa Viranşehir War Veterans Association who are visiting the island as part of the 48th anniversary of the Turkish Peace Operation.
Speaking during the visit, President Tatar stressed that the bond with Türkiye had developed at every level and in every field.
“The Turkish Cypriot People who are an inseparable part of the great Turkish nation was reborn and gained their independence after July 20 1974. We, as the TRNC, are continuing on our path with motherland Türkiye which is the only guarantee for our peace and security” Tatar said.
