President Tatar said that the Greek Cypriot side’s support to terrorism in a geography like Cyprus where peace and tranquillity is sought, is a disgrace and a scandal.

Speaking on a live broadcast on CNN Türk, President Tatar evaluated the topics on the agenda.

President Ersin Tatar issued a statement regarding the participation of the Greek Cypriot journalist Lazarov Mavros in a military exercise of the Greek Cypriot National Guard.

Mavros’s name was included in the fake passport that the Greek Cypriot Administration gave to the terrorist organization PKK ringleader Abdullah Öcalan before he was caught.

A statement issued by the Office of the President said that the PKK was a bloody terrorist organization and that they condemned all kinds of terrorism against the Republic of Türkiye.

President Tatar also emphasized that the Greek Cypriot administration giving permission to the PKK terrorist organisation to open a branch in the South of the island is also disturbing.

“It is a great scandal and disgrace that the Greek Cypriot side supports terrorism in a geography like Cyprus, where peace and tranquillity are sought” said Tatar.

Also noting that the violation of law committed by Greece in the Aegean islands is unacceptable, Tatar said that they are troubled by the efforts being made to spread these violations to the Eastern Mediterranean.

President Tatar underlined that the Turkish Cypriots are fighting for their sovereignty.

“The will we have put forward for a fair and just agreement has not been reciprocated” said Tatar and pointed out that the aim of the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo is to turn the island into a Hellenic island.

Reminding that there are two equal peoples in Cyprus and that one of the two founding partners of the Republic of Cyprus was the Turkish Cypriot people in the 1960 treaties, Tatar said “Our state is based on law. It is not contrary to international law. We aim to further strengthen our state with our new policy and the Maraş expansion. Our national interests together with motherland Türkiye in the Eastern Mediterranean require this”.

Stating that a federal structure includes the withdrawal of the Republic of Türkiye from the island, President Tatar underlined that they resisted this and that if there is to be a treaty in Cyprus, it should be based on sovereign equality and with the continuation of Türkiye’s guarantees on the island.

Noting that they will never accept being a part of the game played in the Aegean islands, President Tatar said, “We have the right to sovereignty in Cyprus. We will continue to carry out this struggle together with Motherland Türkiye”.

Upon being asked a question regarding the EOKA militants, Tatar stated that they will never forget bloody Christmas or the way they killed Major İlhan’s wife and children.

“There have been many massacres in Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriots will never forget this. 103 villages were burned down and our people suffered greatly. All of this was carried out under the church’s influence and the orders of the EOKA terrorist organisation. Only with the 1974 Turkish Peace operation and arrival of the heroic Turkish troops was the genocide on the island stopped. We will never forget this” said Tatar.
