President Ersin Tatar on Monday underlined the need for a two-state solution in Cyprus based on sovereign equality and cooperation.

Tatar was speaking whilst receiving a delegation from the Mersin Chamber of Trade and Industry.

He said that the TRNC had become a centre of attraction in every field expressing the view that higher education, tourism and construction sectors will rapidly develop once the pandemic ends.

Stating that the TRNC as a sovereign state and with all its institutions, economic sectors and human potential will continue to develop, he said the future will be brighter for the Turkish Cypriots as contact with civil society organizations from Turkey is developed.

Referring to the importance of the work carried out by the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce with the Mersin Chamber of Trade and Industry, Tatar expressed the hope that the contacts between the governments and civil society organizations of the two countries will increase and develop further.

Also touching upon the Cyprus issue during the visit, Tatar said that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo did not want a solution with Turkish Cypriots on the basis of equality which was why a two-state solution was necessary.

Stressing that they were acting in full harmony with Turkey on this issue, he said that the Turkish Cypriot people had lost enough time and were out of patience.
