President Ersin Tatar on Sunday said that he was looking forward to socializing with the public as soon as his recovers from Covid-19.
Speaking to the Anadolu Agency, Tatar, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, said that the TRNC had coped well with the coronavirus pandemic.
He said he planned to write his third book on his memoirs concerning the pandemic.
Thanking the health care workers who have been treating him and monitoring his condition he said he was trying to look after his health, exercising and trying to keep busy.
“A leader needs to lead by example which is what I am trying to do,” Tatar said.
The president pointed out that he was experiencing mild symptoms because he was vaccinated and did not have any underlying health problems.
He said he will be returning to normal life in a few days as soon as he tests negative for two consecutive days.
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay as well as other Turkish and TRNC state and government officials who wished him a speedy recovery, Tatar said that it seemed that the world was approaching the end of the pandemic.
“We are expecting the pandemic to die down sometime in March. Newer variants are expected to be milder, he said, adding that he did not know from whom he could have contracted the virus.
Touching upon the remarks made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on his return from Ukraine on the issue of hydrocarbons, President Tatar said that the determination expressed by his Turkish counterpart to protect the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people in the Eastern Mediterranean was proof of just how important Cyprus was for Turkiye.
