President Ersin Tatar, who held contacts in New York as part of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, is returning to the republic on Monday evening.
President Tatar, who also met with the UN Secretary General within the framework of his intense contacts in New York, once again emphasized sovereign equality and equal international status.

President Tatar, who met with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres within the framework of his New York contacts, and then met with members of the press in Turkevi, stressed that there can no longer be a federal structure on the island.
Noting that all negotiation processes had been exhausted, Tatar said negotiations should be held under equal rights and should aim to reach a two-state solution.
Stating that the UN should take a similar step in recognizing North Cyprus as it does South Cyprus, he drew attention to the fact that they were now pursuing a new policy in Cyprus which is based on sovereign equality and equal international rights and status.
Prior to completing his contacts, the president also met with the head and members of the Cyprus Turkish Aid Society based in New York.
He once again repeated that a settlement in Cyprus can only be reached once the sovereign equality of the Turkish Cypriot people is recognised.
He also drew attention to the strong bond that existed with motherland Türkiye and the efforts being carried to break that bond. “We shall never fall for these tricks. No proposed mechanism, particularly one that operates under the EU, is convincing for the Turkish Cypriots. We shall never give up Türkiye’s active and effective guarantees,” Tatar added.
Members of the society for their part expressed their support to President Tatar and his policies.
Meanwhile, President Tatar and his accompanying delegation will return to the republic on Monday evening and is expected to hold a press conference at Ercan Airport and evaluate his New York contacts.
