Renewable Energy Resources in North Cyprus

The Cyprus Turkish Science and Technology Association (BİLTED) organized a panel discussion on Sunday titled “Renewable Energy Resources in North Cyprus and Productive Energy Use.”

According to information released by the Association, deficiencies in the country’s energy policy and actions to be taken were discussed during the panel.

Academics from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Türkiye attended the panel during which studies on the  energy issue were taken up.

The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu delivered an opening speech at the panel which was held at the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry’s Conference Hall on Sunday.

He explained that the country’s energy policy will be formulated by a team of nine experts once the legal groundwork is completed.

Noting that the entire legal framework for work to be carried out for the country’s short, medium and long term energy policies were all planned out, Amcaoğlu said, “The General Energy Department Law has passed from the Council of Ministers. The Energy Supreme Board Law is currently on the Council of Ministers agenda and the Energy Productivity Draft Law has been finalized and is ready to be sent to the Council of Ministers.”

Prof. Dr. Serment Koyuncu from the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, the President of the TRNC Presidency’s Committee on Economy and Natural Resources Prof. Dr. Salih Saner, Prof. Dr. Hasan Amca, Associate Prof. Ercan Hoşkara, Associate Prof. Murat Özdenefe, Associate Prof. Davut Solyalı from the Eastern Mediterranean University, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Dağbaşı from the Cyprus International University, Prof. Dr. Murat Fahrioğlu from the Middle East Technical University, Prof. Dr. Mahmut Kuş from the Konya Technical University and Former Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of  KIB-TEK Yusuf Avcıoğlu delivered presentations on the implementation of renewable energy sources at the panel which was held under two sessions.
