March 18-24 Seniors Week is being observed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

A number of events are being held to show appreciation for seniors and recognize the important contributions seniors make to society.

President Ersin Tatar in a message issued to mark the occassion said it was everyone’s duty to show respect to elders and to ensure they have a comfortable and healthy life.

He also drew attention to the wisdom seniors offered to younger generations.

Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu who also issued a message said that it was not only the state’s but also the community’s duty to ensure that the problems experienced by seniors were solved and that they recieve the place they deserve in society.

He also said it was the right of every senior to be able to spend the remainder of their lives in dignity and the comfort they deserved.

As part of the events, state and government officials are visiting carehomes and recreational centres for seniors.
