The Speaker of Parliament Önder Sennaroğlu received the Polish Member of the European Parliament Thomasz Poreba, Former British Member of the European Parliament Geoffrey Van Orden and a member of the Brussels based New Direction Consulting Company Political Adviser Robert Tyler on Wednesday.
Speaking first at the meeting, Polish MEP Poreba expressed his happiness to be visiting Cyprus and said the voice of the Turkish Cypriots should be heard in the world.
Parliamentary Speaker Sennaroğlu for his part referred to the difficulties the Turkish Cypriot people experience in making their voices heard at international platforms.
“Our deputies are experiencing many difficulties in expressing their views at platforms in Europe. Similarly, the Republic’s Assembly cannot be represented at international platforms. For this reason your visit is important for conveying our voice and stance to our collocutors in Europe. Therefore, I hope that your visit will further strengthen your ties with us” the Parliamentary Speaker said.
Reminding that despite the Turkish Cypriot people’s yes vote the Greek Cypriot people said no to the Annan Plan, Sennaroğlu drew attention to the continuation of international embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people and the non-recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
