Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu stated that the tourism sector is the most prominent sector in the service sector and drew attention to the fact that the loss of prominence in this area affects other sectors negatively.

Receiving a delegation from the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, Sucuoğlu stated that the tourism industry experienced serious and tangible problems after the pandemic due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

He also expressed the hope that with tourism improving in Turkiye it will have a positive impact in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus tourism sector as well.

“We will overcome these problems together. I have always said we may be two states, but we are one nation. Therefore, our destiny is shared. The fate and future of the Turkish Cypriots living in North Cyprus and the Anatolian Turks living in Anatolia are the same. Hopefully, together with the improvement of tourism in the Republic of Turkiye, tourism in the TRNC will reach the desired level as well” said Sucuoğlu.

Pointed out that there is also competition with the Greek Cypriot side in the field of tourism, Sucuoğlu said that this competition should not be lost and that a struggle should be waged on this issue.

Pointing to the strategic importance of Cyprus in the region, Prime Minister Sucuoğlu said, “for us, Turkiye is indispensable, for Turkiye, North Cyprus is indispensable. We have a shared destiny. Our biggest assurance is the unconditional support we receive from our motherland.”

Also speaking during the visit the head of the Board of Directors of TÜRSAB Firuz Barbaros Bağlıkaya stated that as TÜRSAB, they renewed the existing cooperation protocol with the Cyprus Turkish Tourism and Travel Agencies Association in the TRNC.

“Our aim is to increase the number of passengers from Turkiye to North Cyprus, increasing the number of tourists, and at the same time accelerating the number of tourists who want to come to North Cyprus from abroad through tour operators of Turkish origin that operate abroad” said Bağlıkaya and added that unity and solidarity was needed in order to keep tourism alive.
