Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu has ruled out the possibility of his new government not receiving a vote of confidence later this week.
Speaking to BRT on Wednesday before the start of discussions on the government programme, Sucuoğlu quashed rumours that some MPs from his own National Unity Party would be protesting the vote.
“There are attempts being made by some circles to create the perception that there is chaos within the National Unity Party (UBP) and the country. This is not the case,” he said, adding that MPs such as Özdemir Berova who were currently attending meetings of the European Parliament would be flying back to the island on Friday to make it in time for the vote.
Touching upon the economy, the prime minister said that the country was experiencing one of its worst crises in its history but despite all that was going on, the government was fulfilling its financial obligations, paying salaries, subsidies and contributions.
“The whole world is experiencing an economic crisis. To draw a gloomy picture will not earn anyone anything. It will just dampen spirits in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC),” Sucuoğlu said.
He pointed out that the pandemic as well as the war in Ukraine had caused prices and costs to skyrocket.
