Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu said on Monday that the government will be giving priority to achieving discipline in the public sector.
Speaking on a TV programme, Sucuoğlu said that there could be no success where there is no discipline or authority.
Underlining the importance of preserving the public’s purchasing power, the prime minister said that the expected drop in prices at supermarkets had not taken place and that he will personally be working to make sure that this changes.
Commenting on demands to open new crossing points, Sucuoğlu said that such a move would require more police and customs officers.
“We urgently need to increase the number of police officers. This is an issue which we will address. Once we increase the number of officers, we will be able to open new crossing points or increase the capacity of the current ones.
Also commenting on the upcoming local elections, Prime Minister Sucuoğlu said that work was currently underway in collaboration with the Interior Ministry and the Municipalities’ Union to reduce the current number of municipalities from 28 to 12.
He argued that reducing the number of municipalities was inevitable in terms of achieving financial sustainability.
Sucuoğlu said that once the numbers are reduced, more funds will be channelled to the remaining local administrations which will be given wider powers and authority.
