President Ersin Tatar and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan exchanged messages in line with Peace and Freedom Day celebrations.

In the messages, it was reminded that the Peace Operation was a historical turning point in the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people to exist in freedom and live humanely on the island.

In his message to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to mark the 48th anniversary of the 20th July Peace Operation, President Ersin Tatar thanked the Republic of Türkiye on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot people for the contribution and support it provides.

Tatar said, “We are overjoyed and confident that we have acquired sovereign and equal rights of the Turkish Cypriots, the active and effective guarantee of Motherland Türkiye. Our rights and interests in the Blue Homeland are protected together with Motherland Türkiye”.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in his message stated that Türkiye supports the proposals made by President Tatar for cooperation between the two sides on the island, in the interests of both peoples.

Erdoğan stated that the implementation of these proposals and reaching a solution based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people will make significant contributions not only to Cyprus but also to the peace, prosperity and stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region.

Emphasizing that Türkiye should not be expected to stand by as the Turkish Cypriot people remain the victims of the unresolved deadlock, Erdoğan said, “We will continue our rightful struggle with an understanding of unshakable solidarity with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in order to eliminate this injustice and to ensure that the Turkish Cypriot people reach the prosperous future they deserve.”

“Türkiye’s rising regional and global role will undoubtedly continue to be the greatest assurance for the future of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” said Erdoğan in his message.
