President Ersin Tatar attended the National Struggle and Martyrs Remembrance Martyrs Ceremony.

Speaking during the ceremony which was organized by the Cyprus Martyrs Remembrance Platform and held at Girne American University on Wednesday, the President expressed his happiness over once again seeing the Cyprus war veterans, martyrs families and relatives from Turkey in the TRNC.

Tatar noted that Turkish soldiers came to the island with the Peace Operation in 1974 and as a result the Turkish Cypriots had reached to their independence and freedom.

Explaining that efforts towards finding a federal solution in Cyprus remained inconclusive and that an agreement which was supported by Turkey and based on the cooperation of two co-existing sovereign states emerged, the President noted that the Greek Cypriot side still desired to turn Cyprus into an Hellenic island and did not want to reach a solution on the basis of equality.

Stating that he had been sharing this vision with the world since he was elected as president, Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriots had been given a big struggle since 1974.

The President also added that despite the Turkish Cypriots said yes and the Greek Cypriot said no to the Annan Plan the Greek Cypriot side was unilaterally accepted to the European Union.
