President Tatar has said that he will continue his struggle to the end for the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Tatar was speaking during the promotional event of a book in Istanbul.

Speaking at the event, President Ersin Tatar said that it was an honour for him to participate in the promotion of the book titled “Kıbrıs Sevdası-Ateşi Hiç Sönmeyen Ülkünün Peşinde Geçen Ömürler ve Ersin Tatar,” which describes the joint struggle waged by the Turkish Cypriot people in the last 60 years as well as the success of the TRNC.

“I am a person born into the Cyprus issue. My childhood experiences are related to the painful history of Cyprus. My life, which started in the streets of Lefkoşa once scented with the smell of jasmine, has always been focused on the Cyprus issue. There was a struggle in Cyprus to be Turkish. We suffered a lot for the existence of the Turkish Cypriots and gave martyrs. But we never gave up, because we knew that motherland Türkiye was always with us and the Turkish nation would never abandon us,” Tatar said.

He noted that the Turkish Cypriot side’s new policy, which was fully supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was based on equal sovereignty and the cooperation of two separate states living side-by-side.

Stating that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was important and strategically significant for the continuation of the Turkish presence in the Eastern Mediterranean, Tatar said, “It is the beginning of a new era for the TRNC. Today, the balances in the world have shifted. As the soldiers of the great Turkish nation, I say with great pride how important this struggle is for our country and homeland.”

The President also stressed that he will continue his struggle for the recognition of the TRNC to the end.

“I am working for the sovereignty, dignity, freedom of my people and for further strengthening our relations with the Republic of Türkiye. If we are to continue our existence, we need the strength and support of the Republic of Türkiye. These are my feelings and views. I am speaking to you from my heart right now. We will continue to fight in every way possible” Tatar said.
