President Ersin Tatar issued a message to mark the 27-28 January 1958 Resistance.
In his message, Tatar emphasized once again that our state and sovereignty will not be abandoned.
He also emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people who had fought for their freedom, independence and sovereignty were commemorating the 27-28 January 1958 Resistance with much pride.
In his message, Tatar noted that during those times the British together with the Greek Cypriots had tried to downgrade the Turkish Cypriot people into a minority by usurping their sovereign rights.
He added however that the Turkish Cypriot people had shown that they would not bow down, rising against such attempts.
“The 27-28 January 1958 resistance holds a special place amongst the Turkish Cypriot peoples struggle for existence,” said Tatar.
“With the inspiration and strength we received from our martyrs who fell during the resistance, we are showing that we will never bow to the Greek Cypriots. We are telling the world that we will protect our sovereignty, freedom, independence and state. The Greek-Greek Cypriot duo is continuing with its efforts to stake a claim on the island alone and to reduce our people to a minority,” said Tatar.
“Today, as in the past, we will not remain a bystander and will continue our struggle to protect the rights and interests of our state together with Motherland Turkey,” he added.
The president once again emphasized that a solution based on the existence of two equal sovereign states is the only solution that will benefit Cyprus and the region.
