President Ersin Tatar has said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is becoming deeply rooted every passing day and becoming a beacon of hope for its people.

Speaking during a visit paid to him by the International Crisis Group officials, President Tatar noted that the group had international recognition and therefore the reports published by the group had great importance.

Explaining that international forces had yet to accept the realities on the island, Tatar said that for close to 60 years now there have been two states on the island and that the TRNC, which was established with the full support of Turkey as a manifestation of the right of the Turkish Cypriots to self governance, is becoming more and more rooted in its own right.

Underlining the fact that the so-called Republic of Cyprus has turned into a Greek Cypriot republic, Tatar reminded that it was the Greek Cypriot side that rejected the Annan plan and were unilaterally accepted into the European Union and further leading the Cyprus problem into a deadlock.

Informing the International Crisis Group of the massacres experienced by the Turkish Cypriot people at the hands of the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, Tatar said that the Greek Cypriot side had no intention of sharing power or the island’s wealth with the Turkish Cypriot side and added that the TRNC will never give up on Turkey’s guarantees.

He said that if there is to be an agreement it must be based on the cooperation of two sovereign equal states living side by side.

Touching upon the developments taking place in the Eastern Mediterranean, Tatar reminded that the Turkish Cypriot people have the same rights as the Greek Cypriot side on the islands wealth and added that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will never give up on its sovereignty and authority within its jurisdiction.

Noting that the issue of population has never been a criterion on the Cyprus issue, Tatar reiterated that there are two equal separate peoples on the island, therefore this reality must be comprehended.
