President Ersin Tatar on Monday received the head of the Young Veterans Association Derviş Çapkıner and the board of directors.
Speaking during the visit, President Tatar emphasized that the main thing is the homeland, the flag and the independence of the Turkish Cypriot people.
“We want the recognition of our already existing sovereignty” said Tatar and stressed that neither the Turkish Cypriots nor Motherland Turkey would accept an agreement that would call for the withdrawal of Turkish soldiers from the island.
Tatar said the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriots needs to be accepted by the whole world and the United Nations.
Expressing that they are continuing with their struggle in order to create new policies, President Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots live in their own region, freely and independently, under the roof of their own state.
Explaining that the Turkish Cypriots want to live by their own will, to determine their own future and to maintain unbreakable ties with the Motherland Turkey, Tatar said that while there are such values, it is heedless to bring economic problems to the fore, insult Turkey and to push our people towards being pessimistic and to say that the TRNC is at a point where it cannot take care of its own citizens.
Noting that commonsense should always be utilized, Tatar said “the fight we give in Cyprus so that our sovereignty is accepted is always supported by Turkey”.
Drawing attention to the fact that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has informed the whole world that there are two separate states in Cyprus, Tatar said that Turkish President Erdoğan became the voice of the Turkish Cypriot people in New York.
Touching upon the Maraş initiative, President Tatar emphasized that the Maraş issue is a dimension of the two state two sovereign policy and reiterated that the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people should be accepted by the world states and the United Nations.
