President Ersin Tatar on Thursday underlined the importance of sharing with the world the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ determination to exist freely and in security through various means of communication.
Tatar was speaking whilst receiving the head of the Foreign Press Association Rasıh Reşat and members of the board.
He pointed out that the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ resistance against attempts by the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo to strip them of their rights to self-determination emanating from international treaties and history continued.
The president said that these attempts were carried out with the goal of transforming Cyprus into a Greek island.
Tatar complained that the international community abstained on issues concerning the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, thus allowing the Greek Cypriot side to exploit the situation through various tactics.
“It is of great importance that the international community sees, understands and accepts the fact that a settlement in Cyprus can only be based on two sovereign equal states,” he said.
President Ersin Tatar also drew attention to the strategic importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for Turkiye and how cooperation between the two countries will continue.
