President Ersin Tatar has said that the international community’s plan was to break the bond that existed between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus .
“No one can break the sacred and long-standing bond that exists between the two countries,” Tatar said.
He also warned about the dangers of a federal settlement, stating that such a solution would spell the end of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Receiving delegations from the Cyprus Turkish Retired Non-Commissioned Officers Society and the Türkiye Retired Non-Commission Officers Society’s Yalova Branch on Monday, President Ersin Tatar drew attention to the strong bond that exists between the two countries.
Tatar said that international plans were aimed at breaking that bond, something he added was not possible.
Pointing out that the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation was a turning point in the history of the Turkish Cypriot people, the president warned against the dangers of a federal settlement.
“A federal solution would mean the withdrawal of Türkiye from Cyprus. What is aimed is zero troops and zero guarantees,” he said, adding that the presence of Turkish troops and the continuation of Türkiye’s guarantees were indisputable for Turkish Cypriots.
Tatar also said that there were plans in motion that aimed to remove Türkiye’s domination in the Eastern Mediterranean and to contain it to its shores.
