President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday received the President of the Turkey–TRNC Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Orhan Erdem and his accompanying delegation who were in the country as part of the 38th anniversary of the establishment of the TRNC.
Speaking during the visit, the President noted that investments were being made in the TRNC in all fields despite economic problems caused by the pandemic and stressed that the development of the TRNC will continue.
Underlining that a federation which includes single sovereignty was a trap and a result of a selfish policy which will turn the Turkish Cypriots into a minority and remove Turkey from the island, Tatar said the main aim was to maintain the continuation of the Republic of Cyprus through some amendments in the constitution.
The President stressed that a solution could only be possible through the cooperation of two separate sovereign equal states.
Pointing out that the Crans-Montana process was an important indication that a federal thesis ended, he underlined that the new thesis will be carried onward together with Turkey.
Stressing that an imposed solution will never be accepted in Cyprus and that there were two separate peoples, states and democracies, he said the TRNC will maintain its firm stance which it adopts with the support of Turkey.
Tatar also expressed the belief that the rightful case of the Turkish Cypriots will be accepted one day.
Touching upon the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, he said “we will not make concessions on our rights and benefits in the region.”
The Turkey–TRNC Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group President Erdem for his part noted that there was a special bond between Turkey and the TRNC.
He also expressed his full support to the new policy put forward by President Tatar which envisaged the cooperation of two sovereign equal states.
