President Ersin Tatar said on Wednesday that the outcome of last month’s early general elections showed that the majority of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus desired a two-state solution.

Speaking to a WebTV via videoconference, Tatar said that his new vision for a two-state solution based on sovereign equality was supported by the majority.

“There is no going back from this position,” he said, expressing the view that a Turkish-Greek balance in the region is just as important as achieving a balance on the island.

President Ersin Tatar said that the support given by parliament to his position was important in sending the message of a united front on the national cause.
