President Ersin Tatar on Tuesday called on the Greek Cypriot leadership to stop pursuing the dreams of the Greek Cypriot terrorist organisation EOKA.
Tatar’s words came in response to a eulogy delivered by Greek Cypriot Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides at a memorial service for senior EOKA member Grigoris Afxentiou.
Petrides had said it was their duty to bring to justice EOKA’s struggle and they would continue to fight against Turkiye to the end.
“The Greek Cypriots are still pursuing a fantasy and carrying out warmongering,” President Ersin Tatar said in a statement issued by his office.
Stating that the speeches delivered at the memorial services for the senior EOKA member was proof that the Greek Cypriot side’s mentality had not changed; President Ersin Tatar accused the Greek Cypriot administration of being two-faced.
“While the Greek Cypriot administration proposes confidence-building measures (CBMs) on the one hand, it continues its armament campaign on the other, pumping hatred against Turks,” he said.
Drawing attention to the conflict in Ukraine, Tatar said that the war only brought death, pain and destruction.
Tatar added that the ongoing war once again proved the need to settle disputes through dialogue.
