Tatar: TC people will never compromise on its sovereignty and freedom

President Ersin Tatar said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has become more powerful due to its strategic position in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Stating that a two state solution based on sovereign equality was required in Cyprus at this stage, the President underlined that the Turkish Cypriot people will never make any concessions on its sovereignty, security or freedom.

President Tatar made the statement while receiving the President of the International Investment and Business Confederation Nezaket Emine Atasoy and her accompanying delegation on Wednesday.

Tatar also referred to the unbreakable bond between Turkey and the TRNC and stressed that it was not possible to break the ties between the peoples of the two countries.

He also expressed the hope that contacts between the governments and civil society organizations of the two countries will increase and further develop.

Referring to the significance of the Turkey-TRNC Water Supply Project, Tatar noted that water brought from Turkey was an important contribution to the prosperity of Turkish Cypriot people.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue, he said the Turkish Cypriot people continued its life as a sovereign people in the TRNC thanks to the Peace Operation.

Stating that they aimed to carry the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence in the TRNC further, Tatar noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has become more powerful due to its strategic position in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Stating that a two state solution based on sovereign equality was required in Cyprus at this stage, the President referred to the full support of motherland Turkey.

“A federation with a single sovereignty is a big trap which will make the Turkish Cypriots a minority, bring assimilation just like in Rhodes and Crete and remove Turkey from the island” President Tatar said and underlined that the Turkish Cypriot people will never make any concessions on its sovereignty, security or freedom.
