A delegation from the Social Democratic Party (TDP) on Wednesday met with officials from the Greek Cypriot AKEL party.

TDP leader Cemal Özyiğit and his accompanying delegation met with AKEL leader Stefanos Stefanou at the AKEL party headquarters in South Cyprus.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Özyiğit reminded that the TDP and AKEL had been working for years for the reunification of Cyprus.

He said that the current status quo only served the permanent division of the island.

The TDP leader said that both parties had a joint understanding that favoured a bizonal, bicommunal federal settlement in Cyprus.

He added that all pro-solution groups in the country needed to step up their cooperation so as to exert pressure on the two leaders.

AKEL leader Stefanos Stefanou for his part said that they shared the TDP’s views on the restarting of the Cyprus negotiations process.
