The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre was briefed on Thursday on the work and activities of the Civil Defence Organization by its director Atilla Karaca.
Töre who attended a program on Radio Vatan, said that the country which was just emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic was now faced with a new and difficult period due to the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
He said great responsibilities fell on those who are governing the country in identifying and addressing the outstanding problems.
Töre also said it was important to take steps that will ease the daily lives of people.
Stressing that there were some economic problems in the TRNC and that there was also a global crisis due to the pandemic, the Parliamentary Speaker said it was not right to adopt a stance against motherland Turkiye because of the economic problems.
Touching upon the Cyprus issue, he said the Greek Cypriot side has run away from a federal settlement.
“We are an independent Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). We have been supporting a two state solution model since the election of Ersin Tatar as president. The Greek Cypriots on the other have rejected both a federal settlement and a partnership under the 1960 Republic. We are aware that they do not accept a two state solution either but the world must see this. Therefore, what we need to do is to preserve the TRNC,” Töre said.
He also expressed his belief that the status of the TRNC will be further upgraded with the support of Turkiye.
