Töre received Göreme Mayor Eren

The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre received on Thursday the Mayor of Göreme from the District of Nevşehir in Turkiye Ömer Eren who is holding contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

According to a press statement issued by the Parliamentary Bureau, the Mayor of Göreme drew attention to the strong relations that exists between the two countries.

He pointed out that they had signed two separate protocols with the Girne and Çatalköy Municipalites.

The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre for his part said that the Turkish Cypriot people were able to promote the national cause with the support of motherland Turkiye.

He said that the institutions and local administrations of their respective countries will continue to cooperate and work together in solidarity.

“We are very lucky and fortunate to be recognized by the Republic of Turkiye,” Töre added.

Touching upon the conflict in Ukraine, the parliamentary speaker expressed the hope that the war will end soon.

“We gained peace on the morning of July 20, 1974. However we have not been able to achieve an agreement with the Greek Cypriots because they continue to pursue ambitions of uniting the island with Greece. We refused to share Crete’s fate. We are living under our own flag today in freedom and happiness,” he said.
