The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre received İzmir Torbalı Mayor Mithad Tekin and a delegation from the Torbalı War Veterans and Martyrs Aid and Solidarity Society.
Speaking during the visit, Torbalı Mayor Mithad Tekin said that their delegation was made up of 34 war veterans and their trip to the TRNC had been an emotionally packed visit.
Parliamentary Speaker Töre for his part reminded that the Turkish Cypriot people had made it to where they are today as a result of great struggles.
“We are the descendents of the Ottomans who settled here following the island’s conquest in 1571. We are an inseparable part of Türkiye,” he said.
Complaining that the mentality of the Greek Cypriot administration had not yet changed and that its hostility towards Turks continued, Töre criticized the EU’s condemnation of the TRNC’s admission to the Organization of Turkic States as an observer member.
“We condemn the attitude of the EU, which has become a club of Christian states,” he said.
Töre also criticized the protests held by the Greek Cypriot administration on the 39th anniversary of the TRNC and the burning of TRNC flags during the protests.
He noted that such actions did not serve peace.
Töre said that the TRNC will continue to exist, to be passed on from one generation to the next and that no one should expect Turkish Cypriots to give up their state and sovereignty.
