The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Zorlu Töre received a group of veterans who served in Cyprus and youth within the framework of a programme titled “Blue Homeland meeting of Cyprus Veterans and Turkish Cypriot youth” organised by the Directorate of Marytrs’ Families and Veterans under the Turkish Family, Labour and Social Services Ministry.
Speaking during the meeting held at the parliament building on Wednesday, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that a nation which did not have martyrs did not have the right to independence.
“That is why it is important for states to look after their veterans and families of the martyrs,” he said.
Töre said that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo had failed to accomplish its goals of wiping out Turkish Cypriots from Cyprus thanks to its motherland Türkiye.
“We knew Türkiye would return one day. The Greek Cypriots were constantly playing the song, ‘I have been waiting for you but you didn’t come”, he said.
The parliamentary speaker reminded that the Greek Cypriots rejected all settlement plans to date and that it was no longer possible to reach a federal settlement with Greek Cypriots.
“It’s a good thing they rejected a federal settlement. This has allowed us to reorganise ourselves and in the end we are continuing on our path with an independent TRNC,” he said.
Töre also pointed out that the non-recognition of the TRNC was not important, reminding of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words that the ‘world is larger than the number five’.
“For us Türkiye is the greatest, the Turkish army is the greatest, we shall continue on our way with motherland Türkiye. We are not two friendly countries. We are brothers; we are part of the Turkish nation. There is no Cypriot nation. We are all one,” he said.
