The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre has underlined the importance of finding ways of increasing exports of locally grown produce or manufactured products.

Töre’s words came during a visit paid to him by a delegation from the Girne American University (GAÜ) who are working on an orange juice project.

According to information released by Parliament’s press bureau, Assist. Prof Dr Sadık Akyar from the GAÜ’s Department of Political Science said that the orange juice project was part of efforts aimed at finding ways to bypass the current embargoes imposed on the TRNC and increasing exports of locally grown produce to other countries.

Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part said that the project was a wonderful idea on how to raise the problem of exporting citrus produce to other counties.

He said that citrus production had dropped significantly over the years mainly due to the difficulties faced with exporting produce to foreign markets.

Töre said that embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people was totally unacceptable and a violation of basic human rights.
