The head of the Human Rights Association Hasan Yılmaz Işık paid a visit to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre as part of events marking World Human Rights Day and week.
Receiving the delegation, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that only strong and powerful states benefitted from human rights.
He said that the 1960 treaties in Cyprus were based on a federal system and that this model was never truly accepted by the Greek Cypriots.
Töre pointed out that the Greek Cypriots have rejected all solution plans and ideas to date.
“This is why it is important that we protect and preserve our state, our sovereignty and our land,” he said.
Also speaking, the head of the Cyprus Turkish Human Rights Association Hasan Yılmaz Işık said that human rights could only be protected through freedom and independence.
