Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre stated that both the lands of Turkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were won by martyrs and therefore both states should be protected and kept alive.
He made the statement while he received the Mayor of Istanbul Kağıthane Municipality Mevlüt Öztekin and an accompanying veterans delegation.
Reiterating that both Turkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus needed to be protected and perpetuated, Töre said that the spirit of national unity and solidarity should also be reinforced.
Noting that these lands were gained by giving 70,000 martyrs in 1571, Töre reminded that the Prophet Muhammad’s aunt Ümmü Haram was also martyred on these lands.
Touching upon the time when Makarios was overthrown on July 15, 1974, he emphasized that the Turkish army came to the island on the morning of July 20, and since then malicious people have been trying to remove Turkish soldiers from the island.
Referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words that “The world is bigger than 5”, Töre said that the truth of this statement can be seen once again with the current developments that are taking place around the world.
He added that the national struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people will continue.
