TRNC and Germany donate to the Missing Persons Committee in Cyprus

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the Federal Republic of Germany donated to the Missing Persons Committee in Cyprus (CMP).

According to a statement released by the Committee, the Federal Republic of Germany donated €100, 000 and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus donated €75,000 to the CMP.

It also stated that Germany has contributed €800,000 in total since 2006, while the total contribution made by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has reached €508,000.

The European Union has donated 2.6 million Euros to the Missing Persons Committee.

In the written statement made by the Committee, it was reminded that the European Union is by far the largest donor, contributing €33.3m to the Committee since the start of its activities in 2006.

The committee announced that these funds will be used to support the “General Excavation, Identification and Return of the Remains of Missing Persons Project.”

Until now a total of 1023 missing persons from both communities in Cyprus have been identified and returned to their families for an honourable burial.
