The Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun announced that two electricity generators will be brought to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Minister Atun who came together with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez during an Energy Summit held in Antalya, stated that he and Dönmez discussed the issues of ensuring the security of the energy supply of the TRNC and increasing the existing capacity on the island.
“We received the good news that two electricity generators have been assigned to the TRNC by Turkey. It is important that we can take some steps together with the world with projects such as the Green Cyprus and Zero Carbon projects. A production site for electricity car technology is also being formed in the TRNC. We will be in cooperation with Turkey on issues such as the process being planned by our state, legislation being created and the establishment of charging units” said Atun.
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Dönmez noted that they will continue to support the projects that will secure and support the energy supply of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
He said that they also discussed converting the existing fuel oil power plants in the TRNC to natural gas.
“Hopefully, LNG will be brought to the island in the projects to be carried out and that the industry and tourism facilities will also have the clean energy source they need”, said Dönmez.
