An agreement was reached between the government and the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) during Thursday’s extraordinary session in parliament to hold the local elections in December later this year.
The resolution proposal was urgently discussed at the Law, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee during a 10-minute break given to the General Assembly.
The committee unanimously approved the resolution forwarding it to the General Assembly where it was unanimously adopted.
The date for the local elections was reset following a ruling by the constitutional court which declared the law postponing the June elections to November as unconstitutional.
