Tufan Erhürman re-elected as CTP leader

Tufan Erhürman was re-elected as the leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) on Sunday at the party’s 28th ordinary congress held in Lefkoşa.

Erhürman was the only candidate at the congress held under the theme “We are here, we are the people, we will solve it.”

Representatives from the Peoples’ Party (HP), the Social Democratic Party (TDP), the Communal Liberation Party (TKP), the Democrat Party (DP), various chambers and trade unions as well as AKEL, DİSY and the PEO Federation from south Cyprus attended the congress held at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre.

The congress started with an address by the CTP General Secretary Erdoğan Sorakin who drew attention to the impact of the war in Ukraine.

Following the screening of a short video, the introduction of attending guests and the reading out of messages, the CTP leader Tufan Erhürman addressed the participants.

Erhürman said that the CTP, throughout its 52 years of history, strived to achieve social justice, democracy and peace in Cyprus.

He reiterated his party’s support for a federal settlement in Cyprus.

Erhürman who was the only candidate running for the party’s leadership was re-elected with a unanimous vote.
