Turkish state and government officials have issued messages condemning the ugly remarks made by a Turkish journalist against the Turkish Resistance Organisation (TMT).
The Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT) is where the epic resistance of the Turkish Cypriot people is immortalised; Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay tweeted on Wednesday.
Sharing his thoughts on his official Twitter account, Oktay said, “The Turkish Resistance Organization is the spirit of the national struggle that fought for the dignity and honour of the Turkish Cypriots against the inhumane attacks of the pack of killers known as EOKA.TMT is where the epic resistance of the Turkish Cypriot People is immortalised.”
In a similar post on Twitter, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that the TMT was the Turkish Cypriot equivalent of the Turkish revolutionary organisation, the Kuva-yi Milliye.
The spokesman for the Turkish Justice and Development (AKP) Party Ömer Çelik in a statement on the issue said that TMT was a resistance organisation that defended the world’s most honourable and legitimate struggle.
“The TMT is the core of the heroic resistance put up against the gang of murderers known as EOKA. We remember our martyrs with respect. We continue to preserve our spirit of resistance against the heirs of the band of murderers known as EOKA,” he said.
Meanwhile, Turkiye’s Radio and Television Supreme Council announced on Thursday that it will be taking legal action against the journalist who made the scandalous remarks.
