He added that this was the highest figure recorded in the last five years.
Also commenting on the results, President Ersin Tatar said that the growing interest in TRNC universities showed that the country’s institutions for higher education were progressing towards becoming an international brand.
The Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu on Monday welcomed the interest shown by Turkish students in universities offering education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He said that a total of 11,141 Turkish students had earned the right to enrol in TRNC universities.
“This is the highest figure recorded in the last five years. We have seen an 11 per cent increase with 3,581 more students preferring universities in the country,” Çavuşoğlu said.
The education minister said that the increase showed how successful TRNC universities were in their promotional activities.
He added that they will continue to work towards ensuring that the TRNC was a student friendly country and island.
Also commenting on the latest figures, President Ersin Tatar said that the growing interest in TRNC universities was the result of successful marketing strategies as well as the country’s social and physical advantages compared to other countries.
“My hope is that this success will continue with the enrolments,” he said in a written statement issued on Monday.
The president in his statement said that the success achieved was just as important politically as it was economically.
“Foreign students who study in the TRNC serve as ambassadors when they return to their respective countries. I would like to congratulate everyone for their contributions in achieving this success,” he said.
