Turkish Foreign Ministry sources denied allegations that some so-called confidence building measures were being negotiated with the Greek Cypriot Administration.
It is being claimed that the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus is supposedly seeking support of the EU and other third parties in order to put forward confidence building measures that foresees the opening of Ercan Airport under the auspices of the UN, the Gazimağusa Port under the control of the EU and for trade and other commercial activities opening for the Turkish Cypriot people in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in return for the reinstatement of the closed city of Maraş to the Greek Cypriot side
The Turkish Foreign Ministry source stated that the so-called confidence-building measures of the Greek Cypriots side were not serious proposals but aimed at targeting the vested rights of the Turkish Cypriots.
Noting that on Turkiye’s agenda is the reaffirmation of the acquired rights of the Turkish Cypriots in 1960, namely the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots, the source said, “Therefore, there is no issue of ‘Confidence Building Measures’ on our agenda”.
“In this context, the news that the Confidence Building Measures package was being discussed with the Greek Cypriot side by the authorities of our country are purposeful and false and aimed at creating a perception” said the source.
