The Türksoy Photograph Exhibition which was held in honour of the 30th Anniversary of the independence of the Turkic Republics was inaugurated by President Ersin Tatar on Wednesday.
The Türksoy Photograph Exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Near East University and Türksoy.
Speaking at the opening ceremony President Ersin Tatar said “we too are a part of the Turkic world. For years we fought for our independence. Today you share the sovereignty you gained 30 years ago and the happiness of living in freedom today. Currently, we continue to live independently, freely and in sovereignty under the roof of the TRNC. The most important aspect of this is that our people are free. The world has accepted it as such”.
The president said that the people have the right to determine their own future and the people of the TRNC have expressed their will and right to determine their own future, and therefore they are trying to explain this to the whole world.
“There are two different peoples in Cyprus. The TRNC is the Turkish Cypriot peoples. The Turkish Cypriot people are also a part of the Turkic world” said Tatar.
Explaining that thanks to the ties that have been established with Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is able to self govern and develop itself in order to create more prosperity and happiness to the people, Tatar said that the TRNC had a right to become a permanent member of the Turkic council.
“We too are a Turkish state. We are independent, free and are a part of the Turkic world. We, as the people of the same culture and ancestors have come to these days with great sacrifices” said Tatar and expressed the hope that culture and art will be kept alive in the future as well.
