In a written statement issued on Monday, the UBP leader and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that they were celebrating 47 years with pride and honour.

He added that the 11th of October was the day the UBP came to life politically, becoming the voice and will of the Turkish Cypriot people.

Üstel said that since then, the UBP has worked for the welfare of the TRNC as well as the Turkish Cypriot people, upholding the concepts of freedom and sovereignty.

Also touching upon the recent address made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the 77th UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Üstel hailed the Turkish president’s remarks.

“We are happy and proud that our new policy on the Cyprus Issue and the principles of sovereign equality and equal international status embraced and promoted by our party were voiced by Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” he said, adding that the UBP will continue to work towards the recognition of the TRNC’s sovereign equality.

Üstel said that the contributions of the UBP to the TRNC, in terms of the economy, democracy, social welfare and other rights over the past 47 years were undeniable.

“The UBP is the TRNC’s largest, most rooted and strongest party. No one can change this fact. Those who believe in the UBP will never abandon their state or motherland Türkiye. There can be no bright future for the TRNC without a strong National Unity Party,” he added.
