The National Unity Party’s (UBP) Extraordinary Congress will be held on Sunday, September 11.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel is the only candidate running for the party’s leadership at the congress.

The authorized bodies of the National Unity Party (UBP) convened on Wednesday following the resignation of the UBP leader Faiz Sucuoğlu and with an agenda to set the date of the extraordinary congress.

First the UBP Central Executive Board meeting and then the Party Assembly meeting were held at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Centre’s Meeting Hall.

The Party Assembly meeting lasted approximately one and a half hours. Speaking after the meeting, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that the Extraordinary Congress of the National Unity Party will be held on Sunday, September 11, and that he will be the only candidate running for the party’s leadership.

Üstel also said that they will take some measures to overcome the problems experienced in the country after the congress.

Evaluating the Constitutional Court’s verdict on the date of the Local Elections, he reminded that they evaluated this issue during the Council of Ministers meeting which the president chaired.

Expressing that they are waiting for the reasoned justification of the Constitutional Court, Üstel noted that they will re-evaluate the process after this decision.

Regarding the authority status of the incumbent mayors, Prime Minister Üstel said, “None of our citizens will be negatively affected, and we will take the necessary measures in this regard.”
