Faiz Sucuoğlu has become the new leader of the national Unity Party.

The 22nd Ordinary Congress of the National Unity Party was held over the weekend and Faiz Sucuoğlu beat his competition by receiving 5,295 of the 8,727 votes.

Hasan Taçoy received 2,869 votes while Zorlu Töre received 468 votes.

In his speech after winning the leadership race, Sucuoğlu emphasized that the National Unity Party is the party of unity and integrity and thanked the party members for their support.

“We are a party of unity and integrity. There will never be polarization. We will carry the UBP to power alone in the next early elections,” he said.

While thanking the other candidates for taking part in the election, Sucuoğlu said that they are all in the same boat and must protect one another and continue on their path united.

Noting that the most important goal of any government to be formed is the economy, Sucuoğlu said that he will do all he can to improve the economy in the country.

In his speech, Sucuoğlu also touched upon the Cyprus issue and the importance of relations with Turkey.

He said that the National Unity Party fully supports the vision put forward on the Cyprus issue by President Ersin Tatar.

Explaining that for years the Turkish Cypriot people have been defending their case on the Cyprus issue together with Motherland Turkey and will continue to do so in the future as well, Sucuoğlu underlined that the support for Turkey is never disputed within the UBP.

“For years Motherland Turkey has stood by us in the most difficult of times therefore, the Turkish Cypriot people are very lucky to have Turkey as their homeland” said Sucuoğlu.
