The Party Assembly of the National Unity Party (UBP) held its first meeting on Wednesday following the 22nd Ordinary Congress of the party.

A general evaluation was made and efforts towards forming a new government were taken up during the meeting held at the Near East University’s Grand Library meeting hall.

The UBP Parliamentary Group also convened before the UBP Party Assembly meeting.

The meeting headed by the UBP leader Faiz Sucuoğlu was held at the UBP Headquarters at Sarayönü.

Speaking after the meetings, Sucuoğlu said that he was authorized by the party organs to form an interim government and to hold contacts for holding snap elections on the 9th of January 2022.

“The party assembly unanimously gave me approval to hold contacts and make decisions for snap elections planned to be held on the 9th of January” he said.

Stating that a proposal to ‘abolish mix voting’ was unanimously approved by the party assembly, Sucuoğlu said this will be brought to the agenda of an AD-Hoc committee to be established next week.

He also expressed the belief that this will relieve the Supreme Electoral Council in counting the votes and will also enable the earlier announcement of the election results.

Stating that the government model became clear, Sucuoğlu said he will be presenting the new Council of Ministers to the President soon.
