The Council of the Turkish Cypriot Associations (CTCA) has called on the Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle to include the TRNC in his programme during his three-day visit to the island starting on Monday.
In a written statement, CTCA reminded that Britain was a guarantor country in Cyprus and that the UK House Speaker needed to make use of this opportunity to expand the scope of his contacts.
It said that a visit to North Cyprus would demonstrate equality and would be a positive step in talks between the TRNC and the UK.
Meanwhile, the Young Turkish Cypriots Association also based in the UK, highlighted the importance that Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots be treated equally.
The association in a statement said that unfortunately the UK Foreign Ministry was systematically pursuing a policy of discrimination and prejudice against Turkish Cypriots.
It said that contacts to be held between Hoyle and Turkish Cypriot representatives were of vital importance in refraining from discrimination.
“Greek Cypriots do not represent Turkish Cypriots, they never have and never will,” the statement read.
The Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle will be visiting the Sovereign British Bases and will be meeting with the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades and other officials during his three-day visit to South Cyprus.
